Taco Bites

Taco Bites are a tasty appetizer made with ground venison or ground beef, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes and onions, served up in mini tortilla cups.

Tacos and Margaritas are always big hit with the crowd so why not turn that into a fun appetizer? These easy taco bites can be customized with any of your favorite toppings and are sure to be a crowd favorite.

Ingredients for taco bites: taco meat, cheese, green onions, tomatoes, cilantro, lettuce, sour cream.

Ingredients Needed

  • Ground Venison or Lean Ground Beef
  • Picante Sauce ~ Spicy or mild.
  • Taco Seasoning
  • Tostitos Scoops
  • Colby Jack Cheese
  • Iceberg Lettuce
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Green Onions
  • Sour Cream
  • Cilantro

Step By Step Directions

STEP 1 Combine ground venison or ground beef with picante sauce and taco seasoning.

STEP 2 Press mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper to about 3/8 inch thickness. Flip it over onto a grill pan.

STEP 3 Place the grill pan onto the grill and cook with the grill closed about 10 minutes or until it reaches 165° using a digital meat thermometer. (Alternately, cook in a skillet over medium- high heat until well browned.)

Browned ground venison, finely chopped.

STEP 4 Remove from grill and cool slightly. Chop to a fine crumble.

STEP 5 Place tortilla scoops on a serving platter. Top with lettuce, tomato, taco meat, tomatoes, green onions, sour cream and cilantro. Serve immediately.

Recipe Notes

Stovetop Method: If you don’t want to grill the taco meat, cook it in a skillet until well browned.

Make it Spicy: Use spicy picante sauce or add in chopped jalapeños while cooking the taco meat.

More Topping Ideas: Guacamole, salsa, candied jalapeños, diced avocado, sliced black olives.

Storage: Leftover taco meat can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days. Prepared taco cups are best served fresh.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground venison or lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup picante sauce
  • 1/4 cup taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded colby jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced cherry tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 bags Tostitos Scoops

Instructions

  • Combine ground venison or ground beef with picante sauce and taco seasoning.
  • Press mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper to about ⅜ inch thickness. Flip it over onto a grill pan.
  • Place the grill pan onto a 350° grill fire and cook with the grill closed about 10 minutes or until it reaches 165° using a digital meat thermometer. Remove from grill and cool slightly. Chop to a fine crumble.
  • Place tortilla scoops on a serving platter. Top with lettuce, tomato, taco meat, tomatoes, green onions, sour cream and cilantro. Serve immediately.
