Ham and Garlic Cheddar Pasta Bake Recipe from Miss in the Kitchen

Ham and Cheddar Pasta Bake ~ Cheesy Pasta Casserole

A rich and creamy cheddar pasta sauce with chunks of smoky ham and pasta makes a tasty dinner that is really simple to make. Serve it up with a green salad and garlic bread for a complete meal.

Ingredients for Ham and Cheddar Pasta Bake:

  • Ham
  • Pasta ~ medium shells, macaroni or bow ties
  • Butter
  • Onion
  • Minced Garlic
  • All purpose flour
  • Kosher salt
  • Black pepper
  • Milk
  • Cream cheese
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Fresh thyme

How to Make Ham and Cheddar Pasta Bake:

  • Cook pasta for 4 to 6 minutes in boiling water. Drain and set aside.
    In a skillet melt 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet and cook onion over medium heat. Stir occasionally until onions start to caramelize.
  • In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons butte over medium heat. Cook minced garlic about 1 minute, whisk in flour, salt and pepper.
  • Cook for about 2 minutes and whisk in milk and cream cheese. When cream cheese is melted and sauce starts to thicken, stir in shredded cheddar until melted and well combined. Remove from heat.
  • Stir pasta, onions and cheese sauce together and add to a 9″ x 13″ baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until heated through.
  • Garnish with fresh thyme and serve immediately.

Notes and Variations:

  • Yield: 6 Servings
  • Cheese Variations: Swiss cheese, Smoked Gouda or Colby Jack are also great options for this casserole.
  • Store: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: Cook in a pan with a tablespoon or two of milk over medium heat, stirring often until heated through.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ham, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 pound medium shells pasta (or your favorite pasta)
  • 3 tablespoons butter, divided use
  • 1 medium- sized onion sliced thin
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 oz cream cheese, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 8 oz cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme

Instructions
