Apple Dump Cake ~ Easy Apple Dessert
Dessert is an every day occasion at our house. I have a huge sweet tooth but I don't always have time for complicated desserts. That's what makes a dump cake so good, just dump in the ingredients and bake!
Ingredients Needed:
- Apple Pie Filling ~ Use homemade apple pie filling if you prefer, but if you need something quick and easy, store bought is just the ticket.
- Ground Cinnamon ~ Adds warmth and additional flavor to the pie filling.
- Yellow Cake Mix ~ Just the mix, not the additional ingredients. This just gets sprinkled over the pie filling.
- Pecans ~ Adds crunch to the topping, walnuts would be great too. Don't like nuts? Just skip them.
- Butter ~ Melted butter, no substitutes. Salted or unsalted, whatever you have on hand.
How to Make Apple Dump Cake:
- Pour apple pie filling into a 9 x 13 inch cake pan.
- Sprinkle cinnamon over the pie filling.
- Mix well and spread apples in an even layer.
- Sprinkle cake mix over apple pie filling, covering all of the apple filling.
- Chop the pecans and toss over the cake mix.
- Drizzle melted butter over the top.
- Bake for about 40-45 minutes until top is brown and filling starts to bubble.
- Cool on a wire rack for about 15 minutes before slicing.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
How to Store and Reheat:
Store apple dump cake covered in the refrigerator up to 2 days. Set out about 30 minutes to come to room temperature or reheat in the microwave for about 30 seconds to serve warm.
Recipe Variations:
Dump cakes have endless flavor combinations. We love Pineapple Dump Cake and Blackberry Dump Cake plus you can use any fruit or pie filling that you have on hand. You can also switch up the cake mix flavors, I love using spice cake mix too.
