Waffle Grilled Cheese

Made in the waffle iron instead of a skillet, this sandwich turns extra crispy on the outside with gooey, melty cheese tucked into all those golden pockets. Ingredients for Waffle Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

  • Texas toast or any sliced bread
  • Butter
  • American cheese slices or cheddar slices
  • Mozzarella cheese shredded or sliced thin

How to Make Waffle Grilled Cheese

  1. Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer instructions.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Place one slice of bread butter side down. Top with American or cheddar slices and mozzarella.
  4. Add a second slice of bread butter side up to form a sandwich.

  1. Carefully place the sandwich into the waffle iron, closing the lid. If you are using thick sliced bread, cover the waffle iron with a towel and press down with your hand until waffle iron comes together.
  2. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted.
  3. Remove carefully and serve immediately.

Waffle Grilled Cheese

A crispy waffle iron grilled cheese with melty American cheese and mozzarella tucked into golden pockets that are perfect for dipping into soup.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread We used Texas toast, any sandwich bread works
  • 2 tablespoons butter softened
  • 2 slices American cheese or cheddar slices
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese shredded or sliced thin

Instructions

  • Preheat waffle iron.
  • Spread butter onto one side of each slice of bread.
  • Top plain side of bread with a slice of American cheese and mozzarella. Add top slice of bread – butter side out.
  • Place in waffle iron and press down (use a pot holder or towel to avoid burning your hands).
  • Cook until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.
  • Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

  •  Use any combination of cheese that you have on hand. 
  • Add cooked bacon, thin sliced ham or pepperoni with the cheese for a meaty sandwich.
  • Serve with tomato soup, marinara or dunk into ranch. 
  • Best served immediately. Leftovers can be wrapped in plastic wrap and refrigerated for 2-3 days. Reheat in a toaster oven or stovetop in a skillet over low heat.
