My husband loves pecan pie but I was never a fan until I made it with brown sugar! These homemade pie bars have a thick shortbread crust topped with pecan pie filling and chocolate chips. An irresistible flavor combination that everyone loves.

Ingredients for Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars Recipe

  • All Purpose Flour
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Salted Butter
  • Brown Sugar – replaces the corn syrup that most pecan pies are made with. Switch it out and you will love it!
  • Baking Soda
  • Kosher Salt
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Pecans – pecan halves or chopped pecans.
  • Chocolate Chips – I used Milk Chocolate Chips but Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips or Chocolate Chunks work too.

Step-By-Step Directions for Pecan Bars

  1. Make the Crust: Add flour and powdered sugar to a 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Whisk together.
  2. Cut butter into chunks and add to the flour mixture. Use a fork, pastry cutter or clean hands to cut the butter into the flour mixture until about pea size. Mixture will be crumbly.
  3. Press into the bottom of the pan in an even layer.
  4. Bake the Crust: Place in a preheated oven for 20 minutes or until lightly brown.
  5. Remove from oven.

  1. Make the Filling: In a mixing bowl, add brown sugar, flour, baking soda, salt, melted butter, eggs and vanilla.
  2. Mix until well combined with a wooden spoon.
  3. Fold in pecans.

  1. Pour over the baked crust, spreading evenly.
  2. Top with chocolate chips.
  3. Bake the Bars: Return to the oven and bake another 15 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Remove from oven to a wire rack.
  5. Cool: Allow bars to cool completely, at least 2 hours.
  6. Slice: Use a sharp knife to cut into squares for serving.

  • Storage: Cover cooled bars with plastic wrap or place in an airtight container. Store at room temperature up to 3 days or refrigerate up to 7 days. Freeze in a freezer-safe container up to 3 months.

  • Salt: After removing from the oven, sprinkle flake sea salt over the bars.

Ingredients

for the crust

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup salted butter
