Ingredients Needed for Spicy Chex Mix

Spicy Chex Mix Ingredients.
  • Chex Cereal: Corn Chex, Rice Chex and Wheat Chex
  • Mixed Nuts
  • Oyster Crackers – or other small crackers
  • Butter – I use salted butter but unsalted butter works too.
  • Olive Oil
  • Ranch Dressing Mix
  • Granulated Garlic
  • Dried Onion Flakes
  • Red Pepper Flakes –  Ground Red Pepper or Cayenne Pepper

How to Make Spicy Chex Mix

  1. Melt butter in a small skillet or microwave butter and add to a bowl with olive oil, ranch dressing mix, granulated, garlic, onion flakes and red pepper. Whisk together. 
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine Chex cereals, oyster crackers and mixed nuts. 
  3. Pour butter mixture over the cereal mixture.
  4. Toss until well coated. 
  5. Spread onto rimmed baking sheets in a single layer.
  6. Bake for 1 hour in a preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes. I bake 2 baking sheets at a time and rotate the baking sheets between the top and bottom every 15 minutes.
  7. Cool completely on the baking sheet.

Recipe Notes for Chex Mix

  • Storage: Cooled chex mix can be stored in a zip top bag or airtight container up to 2 weeks. 
  • Gifting: Spoon spicy chex mix into cellophane bags and tie with ribbons or a glass jar. 
  • Additions: Pretzel sticks, cheez-its cheese crackers, bagel chips, rye chips or goldfish make great mix-ins of your choice to classic Chex Party Mix. 
  • Variations: If you prefer the classic snack mix recipe, skip the ranch dressing mix and add Worcestershire sauce to the melted butter. Hot sauce can be added also for the spicy snack mix.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups melted butter

  • 3/4 cup Ranch Dressing Mix
  • 2 tablespoons granulated garlic
  • 2 tablespoons onion flakes
  • 1 tablespoon chili flakes or cayenne pepper
  • 6 cups Corn Chex
  • 6 cups Rice Chex
  • 6 cups Wheat Chex
  • 6 cups Oyster Crackers
  • 6 cups Mixed Nuts

  • Preheat oven to 250°.
