Cajun Chex Mix

Easy appetizers are the best and Chex Mix has been a family favorite snack at our house since I can remember. I usually make batch after batch of the classic recipe for the holidays but this Cajun version might be my new favorite!

How to Make Cajun Chex Mix:

Butter and seasonings for chex mix

  • Melt butter in a large, microwave safe mixing bowl. Add in Worcestershire sauce and blackened seasoning, whisking to combine.

  • Add nuts and pretzels along with Rice, Corn and Wheat Chex cereals.

  • Mix until well combined.

  • Pour onto a large baking sheet – I used a 15 x 17 and bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Cool completely and store in an airtight container. 

Microwave Method for Chex Mix:

Seasoned cereal, nuts and pretzels can be placed in a microwave safe bowl and cooked on high for 6 minutes, stirring well every two minutes. Spread onto paper towels to cool.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Blackened Seasoning
  • 1 cup Mixed Nuts
  • 3 cups Pretzels
  • 3 cups Rice Chex Cereal
  • 3 cups Corn Chex Cereal
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex Cereal

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 250°.
  • Add butter to a large bowl, mix in Worcestershire sauce and blackened seasoning.
  • Add nuts, pretzels and Chex cereals to bowl.
  • Stir continually until well coated.
  • Spread onto a large baking sheet.
  • Bake for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Cool completely and store in an airtight container.
  • Alternately - cook on high in the microwave for 6 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool.

  1. BTW. Will you let us know what Your homemade recipe for the blackening seasoning please. I have one that I have not made and I feel it has too much of three types of pepper.

    1. Hi Ed,
      You are right on the mini pretzels, they work best. For the blackened seasoning, we use this recipe:
      2 tablespoons smoked paprika
      2 tablespoons brown sugar
      1 tablespoon garlic
      1 tablespoon oregano
      1 tablespoon dry mustard
      1 tablespoon coarse ground black pepper
      1 teaspoon ground cumin
      1 teaspoon kosher salt
      1 teaspoon cayenne pepper * optional
      Now I know the brown sugar is not traditional but it’s worth a try.
