How to Make Fried Chicken Strips:
The best chicken strips are made with chicken tenders. They will turn out to be the juiciest, most tender fried chicken.
Mix together flour, seasoning salt and pepper into a shallow dish, I like to use a pie plate.
You will mix buttermilk and egg together in another shallow dish. Dredge chicken tenders in flour, then the buttermilk mixture and then back in the flour mixture.
I like to layer the chicken onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet as I bread them.
Next you will heat your vegetable oil and fry a few pieces of the chicken at a time. Drain cooked chicken on a wire rack that has been placed over paper towels or brown paper in a baking sheet.
Tips for Crispy Chicken Tenders:
- Dredging the chicken in the flour mixture first will help the batter stick to the chicken. So flour, buttermilk and then flour again.
- You want your oil to maintain close to 350° for optimal frying. If you are cooking on the stovetop, a cast iron skillet is best to maintain a proper frying temperature.
- To test for doneness, internal temperature of fried chicken should be 165°.
- Draining your chicken on a wire rack will keep the chicken from sweating and making the breading soggy when you remove it from the oil.
Best Side Dishes for Chicken Strips:
I love serving up a batch of Fried Chicken Strips with French Fries, Creamy Coleslaw, Sweet Potato Fries or Oven Fried Tater Tots and don't forget the biscuits!
Best Dipping Sauce for Chicken Strips:
Dr Pepper Barbecue Sauce is my go-to sauce for chicken strips. You might also like our White Barbecue Sauce,it's a tangy mayo based sauce with horseradish and garlic. If you like spicy sauces our Jalapeno Barbecue Sauce or Sriracha Comeback Sauce would be great options. Of course there's always the classic gravy, ranch dressing or a drizzle of honey.

As a replacement for buttermilk can i use whole milk and melted butter.
Milisa
Try adding about a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to a scant cup of milk . It's an easy buttermilk substitute.

Can I make them ahead and freeze them. I have to do finger food for a party, these would be great!
Milisa
Hi Olivana,
I think you probably could and reheat them in the oven but they are best if made fresh.

Heather
Can this be done in a air fryer?
Milisa
Hi Heather,
I haven't tried it but I think it would if you spray with olive oil or vegetable oil before you air fry them. Let me know if you try it.

kelly
Hi, I do not have a meat thermometer, can you estimate on how long per side the strips will take to cook?
Milisa
Hi Kelly,
It will depend on the size of your chicken tenders, but usually about 7- 8 minutes per side. I hope that helps.
