- 2 cups iceberg lettuce shredded
- red onion slices or rings 2-3
- 1 tablespoon candied banana peppers
- 2 hoagie buns
Creamy Italian Dressing
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon fresh ground pepper
Instructions
- Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat, turning after about 4 minutes to brown on both sides until crispy. Remove to a paper towel lined plate.
- Fry the ham slices in the bacon grease for 1-2 minutes per side, just until seared. Drain on the paper towel lined plate.
- Toast the buns.
- Make the salad dressing by mixing mayonnaise, olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper together in a bowl.
- Toss with shredded lettuce.
- On a cutting board, add the bacon, ham, cheese, dressed lettuce, red onion slices and banana pepper rings. Chop coarsely, mixing well.
- Scoop onto hoagie buns and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use provolone, cheddar or mozzarella if preferred.
- Add tomato slices or pickles for extra crunch and freshness.
- Make it toasty by adding meats and cheese to buns and toasting under the broiler for a few minutes. Add the toppings and serve.
- Turn it into a grinder salad — skip the bun and serve the chopped filling over iceberg or mixed salad greens.
- Make ahead tip: Mix the dressing and prep the toppings in advance; assemble just before serving.
