Can these be made ahead of time? I've been looking for a bed recipe for Christmas that I can add to my cookie gift baskets to go along with my other goodies. Any ideas on how to do it? Thanks!
Milisa
Hi Vicky,
You could bake a day or two in advance, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and store in refrigerator. I have not tried freezing this cake, so I'm not sure how it would do.

Elsie
These is a delightful bread/ cake. Everyone that’s tasted it loves it. From the oldest to the littles. I’m made it a few times now.
Milisa
Hi Elsie,
So glad y'all are enjoying it!
~ Milisa
Ana
Has anyone tried using canned apple pie filling in this recipe?
Milisa
Hi Ana,
I haven't tried that. I could work but I would chop the apples and mainly use the apples and not the "filling". I hope that makes sense.

Kara
My family loved this recipe. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Heather
Could you tell me how many small loaf pans and how long you cook them for.
Betty
#3 says brown sugar, but all ingredients are white or granulated will you clarify?
Milisa
Hi Betty,
The ingredients are broken up into sections - at the top is the cinnamon sugar: 1/3 cup brown sugar + 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon. That is for step 3. I hope that helps.

Heather Meech
In the recipe it just says loaf pan - is it a 9" x 5" or 8 1/2" x 4 1/2" pan. It makes a big difference.
Milisa
Hi Heather,
It is a 9 x 5, I will update the recipe card.
Thanks,
Milisa
Heather
Thanks for your quick response. Looks delicious! I will be making this recipe tomorrow.
Milisa
Hi Heather,
I hope you enjoy it!

Currently in the oven gonna be great
Emily
I made this and it was very dry. When I tested it for doneness, the knife continued to come out wet, so I had to cook it longer than the recipe called for. I thought that might be the reason for the dryness. Did anyone else have this problem? I ended up throwing it away. 🙁
mhenry
I found this happening with a couple of loaf recipes and turns out it was the calibration on my oven. Once I fixed that I haven’t had this issue anymore!
Des
I made this recipe. Quite easy but so delicious! Thanks
Milisa
Hi Des,
So glad you enjoyed it!

Veronica Baldeo
How many apples? I have re-read the recipe over and over and do not see how many apples the recipe calls for. Please advise, I would like to try this recipe this weekend.
Thank you
Milisa
Hi Veronica,
The recipe card is at the very bottom of the post with all of the measurements. You can also use the jump to recipe button at the top of the page to take you there. This recipe uses 1 3/4 cups of diced apples.
~ Milisa
Veronica Baldeo
I found the apples! I have so many "ads" on my page, the measurement was buried.
Tina McGillvary
Yes the adds are terrible! It is like playing a game, trying to get rid of all of them!
Alexis
Can the buttermilk be substituted?
Joann
Can the buttermilk be substituted
Micha
You can make your own with a dash of lemon juice and milk, then let it sit for 5 minutes until it thickens.
Katie
For the icing, 2 tablespooons of milk seems like a lot of liquid for 1/2 cup of powdered sugar. Should it be 2 teaspoons?
Milisa
Hi Katie,
You are right, I will correct that.
~ Milisa
Kim
I don’t have buttermilk. What can I substitute?
Milisa
Hi Kim,
You can make a buttermilk substitute by adding about 2 teaspoons of vinegar or lemon juice with regular milk to create 1/2 cup.
~ Milisa
Jenny Martin
I can't find what temperature the oven should be on 350, 375
Milisa
Hi Jenny,
It's 350°.

This looks lovely. Could you please give the ingredients list in grams?
Amber
Seeing the salt and baking powder in the recipe I wonder if I can use self rising flour instead?
Milisa
Hi Amber,
I think that will work just fine.
~ Milisa
Amber
So....don't do that lol. That was the only difference in the recipe and it collapsed a bit in the center, i tried it as the recipe states and it was absolutely perfect!
Milisa
Hi Amber,
I'm sorry that didn't work out, I really thought it would. Thanks for coming back to let us know for sure.
