Tex-Mex Spice Mix

Have I mentioned that I am really forgetful?  I always forget things at the grocery store, like taco seasoning, so I came up with my own because I can’t live without Taco Tuesdays. Okay, so we don’t have tacos every Tuesday, but we have them a lot.  I love tacos, kind of like Bubba going on in Forrest Gump about shrimp, that’s how I feel about tacos.  Pork tacos, ground beef tacos, grilled chicken tacos, steak tacos, are you starting to get a picture?  Any way this spice mix is really simple and most likely all of the ingredients are in your pantry or easily accessible from your regular grocery store.  So fret no more, if you’re like me, Taco Tuesdays are on again!

Tex-Mex Spice Mix

Ingredients:

1/2 cup chili powder

4 tablespoons ground cumin

2 tablespoons black pepper

2 tablespoons salt

2 tablespoons granulated garlic

1 tablespoon cilantro

Directions:

Combine all ingredients thoroughly and store in an airtight container.  Makes about 1 cup.

Uses:

For seasoning meats I use 1 tablespoon per pound of meat.

For a creamy Tex-Mex dip

1 tablespoon Tex-Mex spice mix

1 cup ranch dressing

2 tablespoons sour cream

Mix well.

A lot of the packaged stuff contains so much salt! This mix sounds really flavorful although it might not last long–my hubby could probably eat tacos every day!
