Homemade Meat Sauce

- 1 pound ground Sausage
- Breakfast Sausage
- or
- Sweet Italian Sausage
- 1 pound smoked sausage
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 1/2 cups diced onions
- 1 cup diced bell peppers
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 4 cups roasted tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar optional
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Pasta for Serving: 1 pound cooked spaghetti or 20 ounces frozen cheese ravioli cooked
Cook ground sausage in a skillet over medium heat, stirring and crumbling until well browned. Remove to a bowl and set aside.
Dice smoked sausage and set aside.
Add olive oil to a large skillet and cook onions, bell peppers and garlic over medium heat, stirring often until vegetables are softened.
Add tomato sauce and heavy cream, mixing to combine.
Stir in ground sausage and smoked sausage.
Add basil, thyme, oregano, brown sugar, salt and pepper and stir until combined.
Continue to cook over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes.
Serve over cooked pasta.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days or freeze up to 3 months.
Reheat in a pan over low heat, stirring often until heated through.
