Ingredients

  • 3 onions sweet or yellow onions
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 12 ounces sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh parsley for garnish
  • chips crackers or vegetables for serving

Instructions

  • Peel and cut onions into quarters, slice thin,
  • Mince garlic.
  • Melt butter in a skillet, add onions and garlic and cook over low heat.
  • Stir occasionally, keeping a close eye on the onions and garlic so that they do not burn.
  • Cook for about 20 minutes or until onions are well caramelized.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a bowl, mix sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, thyme, salt and pepper.
  • Fold in onions.
  • Top with parsley if desired.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least one hour before serving.
  • Serve with chips, crackers or vegetables.

Notes

Onion dip can be made up to 3 days in advance. Keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
