Barbecue Meat Pies

Barbecue Meat Pies are filled with smoked meatballs coated in homemade barbecue sauce along with mozzarella cheese all wrapped up in a flaky pie crust. Baked to perfection for the perfect appetizer for game day gatherings or parties with family and friends.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chuck 80% lean
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned or quick oats
  • 1/4 cup homemade barbecue sauce
  • 2 eggs divided use
  • 1 onion diced
  • 3 large garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon Mrs Dash Extra Spicy or other 5 pepper seasoning blend
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 unbaked pie crusts
  • 1/3 cup flour for cutting pie crust
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • Prepare Grill with an off set fire or preheat oven to 375°
  • Add ground chuck, oats, 1 egg, onion, garlic and barbecue sauce to a bowl.
  • Mix Mrs Dash Extra Spicy Seasoning, granulated garlic, black pepper, and salt together and add to bowl. 
  • Using your hands, blend the mixture together. 
  • Form into meatballs and place on a Grill Pan
  • Place on heated grill and shut the lid. 
  • Cook at 325-350° for about 15-20 minutes or until meatballs reach 165°. 
  • Remove from grill and baste with homemade barbecue sauce
  • If meatballs are grilled, preheat oven to 375°
  • Cut pie crust into 2 1/2 - 3 inch circles using a biscuit cutter. 
  • Top a pie crust circle with about a teaspoon of mozzarella cheese and half of a meatball. 
  • Top with another pie crust circle and using a fork, crimp edges to seal.
  • Place on a lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. 
  • Beat an egg and brush over pie crusts. 
  • Bake for 17-20 minutes until golden brown. 
  • Serve with homemade barbecue sauce.
