- 1/2 cup salted butter
- 2/3 cup cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Add the butter to a mixer bowl and beat until fluffy, about 2 minutes.
In another bowl, add the cocoa powder and half of the powdered sugar. Whisk together. Add the remaining powdered sugar and whisk until combined.
Add milk, vanilla and half of cocoa mixture to the butter.
Mix on low until combined. Add the remainder of the cocoa mixture, mix on low until combined. Raise to medium-high speed, mixing until fluffy and smooth.
Store frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 weeks. Bring to room temperature before using.
This frosting will frost a 9 x 13 inch cake, 24 cupcakes or a 9 inch layer cake.
