Easy Chocolate Frosting

Easy Chocolate Frosting is a no-cook, cocoa powder buttercream frosting that is perfect for icing cakes, cupcakes and making sandwich cookies.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Add the butter to a mixer bowl and beat until fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  • In another bowl, add the cocoa powder and half of the powdered sugar. Whisk together. Add the remaining powdered sugar and whisk until combined.
  • Add milk, vanilla and half of cocoa mixture to the butter. 
  • Mix on low until combined. Add the remainder of the cocoa mixture, mix on low until combined. Raise to medium-high speed, mixing until fluffy and smooth. 

Notes

Store frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 weeks. Bring to room temperature before using.
This frosting will frost a 9 x 13 inch cake, 24 cupcakes or a 9 inch layer cake.
