Fried Cheese Curds

Fried Cheese Curds are crispy and delicious making them the perfect comfort food appetizer. Cheddar cheese curds breaded with herb bread crumbs for an irresistible bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound cheese curds
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 2 cups Panko Breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Make a breading station by adding flour to one bowl, beat the eggs and buttermilk together in another. Add the panko, basil, thyme, oregano and salt into a third bowl and mix to combine. 
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. 
  • Dredge the cheese curds in the flour, then dip in the egg mixture. Roll in bread crumbs. Repeat with the egg mixture and then finish in the bread crumbs. 
  • Place on the lined baking sheet in a single layer.
  • Place the breaded cheese curds in the freezer for 45 minutes. 
  • Heat the oil in a heavy pan over high heat to 350° using a deep fry thermometer.
  • Fry the cheese curds a few at a time until golden brown, about 1 - 2 minutes each. 
  • Remove to a wire rack in paper towel lined baking sheet. 
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce. 

Notes

  • If you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in an air fryer at 350° for 3-4 minutes or in the oven at 400° for 5- 8 minutes.
