Made this as a double . I think the key to getting the basil flavor into the drink is the muddling. I used to think tearing the leaves was best to release the flavorful oils. I was wrong. Just hitting the leaves with the muddled and “ bruising” the leaves releases the flavorful oils. The simple syrup removes any burn from the gin. Either way, it was delicious. Definitely one of my specials when entertaining or pretending I’m relaxing on the veranda at sunset.
