Not so much because of what it is but rather I didn’t realize this was a thing so many other people ate. My 40-something husband had this growing up all of the time. I unfortunately didn’t get to meet his mom but I’ve heard stories about her making it. This is a tradition that I am proud to do – but on birthday and special occasions only. I don’t really eat it. I’m a sausage gravy girl through and through.

This recipe is almost verbatim of what I do… but I cheat. I put everything into a Pyrex bowl in the microwave. Make sure you watch it otherwise you will have a chocolate mess if it boils over! Thank you for a great recipe and a lot of nostalgia.
