Brown Sugar Shortbread is the classic buttery crisp cookies that are melt in your mouth delicious. Made with just 3 ingredients, these cookies are great for any day of the week and perfect for holiday cookie trays.

Shortbread cookies are great to bake and share for the holidays for their buttery taste and crumbly texture. Great to enjoy with a mug of hot chocolate, coffee or a tall glass of ice cold milk.

  • Salted Butter
  • Brown Sugar
  • All Purpose Flour

✅ Step By Step Directions

  1. Add softened butter to a mixer bowl with brown sugar. Beat at medium speed until creamy. 
  2. Add the flour, mixing just until combined. Collage: Shortbread dough, rolled, cut into circles.
  3. Scrape the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead together until dough forms a ball. 
  4. Use a rolling pin to roll to about 1/3 inch thickness. 
  5. Cut into 2 inch circles with a round cookie cutter or use a pizza cutter to make strips. Collage: Baking shortbread cookies.
  6. Place on a lined baking sheet about an inch apart.
  7. Prick with a fork or wooden skewer.
  8. Bake for 20 – 25 minutes.
  9. Remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

Store cookies in an airtight container up to 2 weeks.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 300°.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together in a mixer bowl.
  • Add the flour and mix just until combined.
  • Scrape dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead into a ball.
  • Use a rolling pin to roll out to about 1/3 inch thick rectangle.
  • Cut into circles with a cookie cutter or pizza cutter for strips.
  • Press the dough scraps back together and roll if using the cookie cutter.
  • Prick with a fork or wooden skewer.
  • Place 1 inch apart on a lined baking sheet.
  • Bake 20- 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
