Desserts

When I first heard that my friend, Susan from DoughMessTic was working on a cookbook, I was so excited.  I have been dying to get my hands on it and guess what?  It is here!  The Everything Ice Cream, Gelato and Frozen Desserts Cookbook.

We are talking 300 frozen dessert recipes!

  • Ice cream, ice milk, and frozen yogurt
  • Sherbets and sorbets
  • Italian gelato and other international frozen desserts
  • Vegan and sugar-free frozen desserts

Doughmesstic is one of my very favorite blogs.  You can always count on Susan to have something totally mouthwatering and delicious and not just sweet stuff.  Did you see the Buffalo Chicken Cupcakes?  Mercy.  Plus she creates the most amazing cakes, there is no limit to her creativity and talent. If this sounds like I’m Doughmesstic’s number 1 fan, it might be true.

I had never had orange ice cream before but I love dreamsicles and couldn’t wait to try it.  Fabulous, it is fabulous!  The name says it all it is creamy and dreamy.  I might have to make a double batch next time because I really had a hard time making myself share this with the boys!  It is a no-cook recipe which makes it so easy!

Ice cream is the favorite dessert at our house.  My seven year old would eat it morning, noon and night.  Most mornings he wakes up and asks for ice cream.  I’m not even kidding.  So I know I’m going to be trying every single recipe in this book!

Now go on over to Amazon and order a copy or two.  This would be the ideal gift for everyone!  And for one lucky person I have a copy to give away.

Dreamy Orange Ice Cream

from: Everything Ice Cream, Gelato, and Frozen Desserts Cookbook by Susan Whetzel

Ingredients:

Yield: 1 quart

  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • Zest of 4 medium oranges
  • 1 ½ cups Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Grand Marnier, optional

Cooking Directions:
Adding Zest to Sugar

This recipe calls for the zest of the oranges and the sugar to be pulsed in a food processor, but a similar and effective method is to use your fingers.  Simply add the zest to the sugar and continue to knead and squeeze the mixture until the zest has released its scent and become a part of the sugar.

Then continue with the recipe as directed.  This method is also very useful when making baked goods, such as pie crusts, where you may like a little extra kick of flavor.
1.         Combine the sugar and orange zest in a food processor and pulse until the sugar and zest are very well combined.

2.         Add in the remaining ingredients and pulse thoroughly for several minutes, until all of the sugar has dissolved.

Allow to chill for 1-3 hours.

3.         Once chilled, add to ice cream maker and follow manufacturer’s instructions for freezing.

 Enjoy!

There is also a sweet little KitchenAid giveaway happening over at Doughmesstic in celebration!

Rolo Brownie Bites

by Milisa on May 12, 2012

Rolo Brownie Bites

Lists are a very important part of my life.  They keep me on track and help me remember the important things everyday that I must do.  When I head to the grocery store I am always in a hurry. Always.  Without a list I forget the important things like eggs or bread and get distracted by things like candy.

As I was meandering through the grocery store the other day, I spotted Mini-Rolo candies.  Of course I threw them in the cart even though they were not on the list.  I mean who can resist chocolate wrapped caramels in mini form?  Certainly not me!

As I put the groceries up and opened the Rolos and ate a couple.   I ate a few more and a few more and realized I shouldn’t just stand in the kitchen mindlessly eating a whole bag of Rolos!  So I baked brownies stuffed them with Rolos  in the mini-muffin tin so I could eat more or I mean share them with the boys. Right? Right!

A few weeks back we attended the FFA Work Auction where they auction off kids for 8 hours of labor to raise money for the local FFA chapter.  I bought my niece and she’s here to help me today.  We are going to do some heavy house cleaning.  My boys are way more excited to go help Dad than to help me with house cleaning so I am going to appreciate the help!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and if you happen to be making a sweet treat, you must try these little brownies!

Iced coffee is a wonderful treat in my book.  We drink lots and lots of coffee around our house, but almost always hot coffee.  As the temperatures warm up we drink less.  I have discovered the wonderous world of iced coffee at the local General Store.  I decided surely I could make something similar at [...]

Friday, it’s Friday, thank goodness!  I had big plans of finishing a tile project in my bathroom this week, but I didn’t even get close.  I did lots of other things instead.  Laying tile is not my favorite thing and it’s not hard for me to find something more important to do.  Although when the [...]

Even though it hasn’t been all that warm here in Wyoming, I have been craving summer time and ice cream!  Although summer is crazy-busy on the ranch, I do love when everything greens up and I get my garden growing.   The boys are talking non-stop about school being out and  fishing for catfish down [...]

Have you joined the Biscoff craze? Where has this jar of magic been all of my life?  Well obviously I am smitten and when you open up a jar and taste that first spoonful you will be too!  It ranks up there with Nutella and Dulce de Leche in my opinion. I have been wanting [...]
