Mocha Milkshake

Mocha Milkshake

This morning when we went outside to go to the bus, my little guy asked, “What’s that noise?”  I told him that it was a bird chirping and it must be Spring!  Of course it was still only 29 degrees.  I’m trying to be positive here.

In between checking cows today, doing tons of dishes and laundry I decided to make myself a milkshake.  I love the coffee milkshakes from Coldstone Creamery but I didn’t have coffee ice cream.  My family prefers vanilla ice cream served with lots of sprinkles, I mean LOTS!  Personally I don’t like sprinkles, I think there is something wrong with me but anyway, vanilla is not my favorite either.  So I thought maybe I could add a little chocolate, a little coffee and make a mocha milkshake.

I had some Scharffen Berger Chocolate calling my name from the pantry along with some espresso powder and the result was so delicious.  It was almost like a reward for my house cleaning which is a thankless and unending task.  I decided to take a photo, of the milkshake and not of my clean house,  so I could share it with all of you who do thankless tasks all day everyday.

I sat down to download the pictures and catch up on my DVR shows (Top Chef Reunion) and sipped or actually gulped my milkshake.  I checked my email, and then starting looking at the photos.  I wasn’t sure if I was happy with my photos or not.  I thought I might have to make another milkshake to get a better photo.  You know because I already drank the first one.  You might not know but food bloggers make sacrifices like that all the time!

I will leave it up to your imagination if I had one or two milkshakes and you should reward yourself for that giant pile of laundry or clean kitchen with one of these Mocha Milkshakes!

Mocha Milkshake

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup milk, divided
  • 1/2 oz bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • whipped cream and additional chocolate for garnish

Directions:

Add 1/4 milk and chocolate to a small microwave safe bowl and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between until chocolate is melted.

Add ice cream, melted chocolate, remaining 1/4 cup milk, vanilla, espresso powder into a blender bowl.  Blend for 1 to 2 minutes or until ice cream is smooth and all is blended together smoothly.

Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream and shaved chocolate.

Enjoy!

Creamy Mushroom Egg Rolls

Valentine’s Day is coming up pretty soon and Otis at N8tion.com has partnered with Virtual Potluck  to bring you cocktails paired with our special Valentine’s treats.  I have a fabulous appetizer for you today that is so easy and quite tasty.

Do you have a Valentine’s tradition?  My sweetie and I used to always have dinner out but you know with kids and living in the middle of nowhere makes that a little difficult!  So usually we have dinner at home with the kids, but a cocktail is definitely in order!  Before I introduce the cocktail video here is a little more info on N8tion!

“Taste is a new mixology show that features cool cocktails from the common guy. From the creative minds at N8tion.com, our resident “booze head” Otis showcases classic and not-so-classic cocktail recipes. Who is Otis???? We found him under a bar in downtown Atlanta nursing a Corona while holding a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. No seriously, after tending bars for countless college parties, he honed his bartending skills in local taverns on the nights he wasn’t moonlighting as a bouncer. Taste is a product of N8tion.com, an independent television and radio network founded by brothers Myron and Otis McDaniel.”

Cinnamon-Nutella Hot Cocoa

October 22, 2011

The really cool temperatures are creeping in here in Wyoming and nothing warms you up like a nice cup of hot cocoa.  I decided to give my cocoa a new twist with some Nutella and cinnamon.  I get teased a lot about my fondness of Nutella and when my husband eyed my hot cocoa the [...]

Strawberry Cheesecake Milkshakes

August 3, 2011

My youngest son loves ice cream, he wants it first thing in the morning when he gets up, he wants it at lunch time and at supper time and in between meals.  He can’t get enough, well maybe that’s due to the fact that I don’t give it to him every time he asks.  He [...]

Strawberry-POM Limeade

July 29, 2011

It seems we’ve had record breaking heat across the country this summer. I am quite thankful for my air conditioner and for my mostly indoor job. My husband and teenage boys spend most days outside in the heat and it is exhausting. Irrigating hay meadows, cutting, baling, hauling and stacking hay; all just a small [...]
