Honey-Orange Glazed Ham

Ham is always on the menu for Thanksgiving around our place.  I’ve bragged about the Petit Jean Ham that my Mom brought me from Arkansas a few years back.

I saved it especially for Thanksgiving and my love for Petit Jean Meats was reborn.  Who knew a few short years later I would become an Ambassador for the Petit Jean brand.  Gosh I love being a food blogger!

Every Petit Jean Ozark Hickory Smoked Spiral Sliced ham is individually hand -trimmed and seasoned with a blend of cloves, cinnamon, and other special ingredients before going into our old-fashioned smokehouse.

Inside our smokehouse, each ham soaks up the smoke from smoldering hickory chips for at least 16 hours. The result is a ham that is fully cooked, moist and tender through and through, with a incredible smoky flavor that goes all the way to the bone.

How to Make Honey Orange Glazed Ham

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Place ham in a foil lined baking dish.
  • In a small sauce pan add all of the glaze ingredients and cook over low heat, stirring often until all ingredients are combined.
  • Remove from heat and brush over ham, making sure to get in between slices on all sides.  Reserve about 1/3 of glaze.
  • Place ham in the oven and bake 10 minutes per pound.
  • Half way through the baking time, pour remaining glaze over ham and continue to bake until ham is heated through.

Traditionally I prepare the ham for Thanksgiving dinner and my Mother-in-law prepares the turkey and the dressing.

We all chip in with appetizers, sides and desserts.  We always end up with enough food to feed a small country, but then we enjoy the leftovers for a few days.

It is one of the few times the boys leave any leftovers.

After stuffing ourselves until we can’t stuff anymore it’s usually naps in front of the fire.  We sometimes watch football and sometimes it’s the James Bond marathon that seems to always be playing over Thanksgiving.

We are too far from the cities to go crazy on Black Friday, so it is usually back to work on the ranch the day after, but man do we eat good for the next few days!

Petit Jean Smoked Hams are fully cooked, so I added a quick Honey-Orange Glaze, popped it in the oven and in just over an hour we were ready to eat!

You can order yours and it will arrive safely on your doorstep, no rush at the supermarket, no fights for the last ham like Christmas with the Kranks!  These are hands down my favorite hams and I know you will love them too!

Ingredients

  • 1 Petit Jean Spiral Sliced Smoked Ham 7-9 pounds

for glaze:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 garlic clove grated or minced
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon stone ground mustard

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Place ham in a foil lined baking dish.
  • In a small sauce pan add all of the glaze ingredients and cook over low heat, stirring often until it just starts to bubble and all ingredients are combined.
  • Remove from heat and brush over ham, making sure to get in between slices on all sides. Reserve about 1/3 of glaze.
  • Place ham in the oven and bake 10 minutes per pound. My ham was about seven pounds so I set the timer for one hour ten minutes.

  • Serve immediately or at room temperature.

Disclosure: I was provided with a ham for recipe development as part of the ambassador program from Petit Jean Meats.  All opinions are my own and I’ve loved the Petit Jean brand since I was a kid!
