Mocha Milkshake

This morning when we went outside to go to the bus, my little guy asked, “What’s that noise?”  I told him that it was a bird chirping and it must be Spring!  Of course it was still only 29 degrees.  I’m trying to be positive here.

In between checking cows today, doing tons of dishes and laundry I decided to make myself a milkshake.  I love the coffee milkshakes from Coldstone Creamery but I didn’t have coffee ice cream.  My family prefers vanilla ice cream served with lots of sprinkles, I mean LOTS!  Personally I don’t like sprinkles, I think there is something wrong with me but anyway, vanilla is not my favorite either.  So I thought maybe I could add a little chocolate, a little coffee and make a mocha milkshake.

I had some Scharffen Berger Chocolate calling my name from the pantry along with some espresso powder and the result was so delicious.  It was almost like a reward for my house cleaning which is a thankless and unending task.  I decided to take a photo, of the milkshake and not of my clean house,  so I could share it with all of you who do thankless tasks all day everyday.

I sat down to download the pictures and catch up on my DVR shows (Top Chef Reunion) and sipped or actually gulped my milkshake.  I checked my email, and then starting looking at the photos.  I wasn’t sure if I was happy with my photos or not.  I thought I might have to make another milkshake to get a better photo.  You know because I already drank the first one.  You might not know but food bloggers make sacrifices like that all the time!

I will leave it up to your imagination if I had one or two milkshakes and you should reward yourself for that giant pile of laundry or clean kitchen with one of these Mocha Milkshakes!

Mocha Milkshake

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup milk, divided
  • 1/2 oz bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • whipped cream and additional chocolate for garnish

Directions:

Add 1/4 milk and chocolate to a small microwave safe bowl and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between until chocolate is melted.

Add ice cream, melted chocolate, remaining 1/4 cup milk, vanilla, espresso powder into a blender bowl.  Blend for 1 to 2 minutes or until ice cream is smooth and all is blended together smoothly.

Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream and shaved chocolate.

Enjoy!

I keep telling myself to cut out the chocolate…but I’m a girl – and that is never ever going to happen. Who am I kidding? And this would only further my dependency on the luscious stuff. Gorgeous!

What a great shake. I’d have this for snack every day if I could. :)

I hate it when I have to make another milkshake because the first one has evaporated. ;-)

Now that’s my kind of milkshake! Sounds like it would be the perfect reward for cleaning the house.

Ha ha! I often joke that doing laundry is like mountain climbing – every time you think you’ve reached the top, there’s one more peak. If you finally make it to the top, you still have to come back down and fold it all and put it away. Shakes do have a magical way of making Mt. Laundry much more enjoyable though!

Now this is my kind of milkshake! I’d definitely have to have seconds and thirds!
